Jour 1

- Transfer Salalah - Thumrayt (1 - 90 Km)
- Transfer Thumrayt - Shisr (Ubar) (1 h - 100 Km)

Visit of Ubar ruins in Shisr (1 h). We stop on the way to visit the ruins of what is believed to be Ubar mythical city located 'between Hadramaut and the trees of Oman'. This city was partly detroyed when a subterranean cavity collapsed to form a sinkhole. The main tower and traces of fortifications remain visible. We'll visit them as well as the small museum explaining the discovery of the site.

- Transfer Shisr (Ubar) - our camp in Rub Al Khali (2 h - 110 Km)

Short walk in the sands to sea the sunset (1 h). We have a walk across the high dunes of the Rub Al Khali (Empty quarter in Arabic), the huge and arid desert of Saudi Arabia that crosses Oman's border. We'll walk up a dune to see the sunset in this unbelievable landscape….

Jour 2

Hike in the desert (6 h). We walk toward the giant dunes of the Rub Al Khali. On the way we see white rocks (calcium carbonate) which are remains of former lakes which are now completely dry. We climb several high dunes. Around noon we walk back to our camp and have lunch and rest in the shade. At the end of the afternoon, we climb another huge dune and enjoy a wonderful sunset on the top. Many dunes are singing in this desert...

Jour 3

Hike in the desert (6 h). Today, we walk across several dunes to set up our camp in another area. On the way we find some geodes (rocky balls full of white cristals) and various rocks polished by the wind and sand. In the late afternoon, we climb one of the huge dune overlooking our camp to enjoy a breathtaking sunset there.

Jour 4

Hiking in Rub al Khali (6 h). We walk again through the Rub Al Khali : climbing dunes, having them sing while running down, and still these magnificient views over this imensity of sand.

Day 5

Morning walk in the dunes (2 h). This morning we climb one of the big dunes and enjoy a last view over this sea of sand.

- Walking time : 1 to 2 h

- Transfer our camp in Rub Al Khali - Water Point (20 min - 15 Km)
- Stop at the water point (1 h). We stop at a place where there is water and enjoy a shower in the middle of the sands.

Meeting with a camel farmer (1 h). While at the water point, we try to organize a meeting with a camel farmer. We then follow him and set up our camp next to his camp. As camps for camels are moving according to the food available, this meeting might sometime not always be possible.

- Transfer Water Point - Our Camp in Rub Al Khali (20 min - 20 Km)

Jour 6

Hiking in desert (6 h ) We walk toward the camp of the camels. If we are lucky, we'll see the milking of the camels. We visit the camp and have some tea and fresh milk. We then walk along the ridge of the dunes back to our camp. Late in the afternoon, we climb a dune to enjoy a wonderful sunset from the top..

Jour 7

Morning walk in the dunes (2 h). This morning we climb one of the big dunes and enjoy a last view over this sea of sand...

- Transfer our camp in Rub Al Khali - Thumrayt (2 h 30 - 175 Km)
- Transfer Thumrayt - Salalah (1 h - 100 Km)

Salalah Beach Villas. We spend the night in this nice hotel. The hotel is located in Al Dhariz, facing the sea, and has a swimming pool. Sea View Room. Comfortable room with A/C, fridge, and private bathroom. Breakfast at the hotel.

Jour 8

Salalah food Souk (1 h ). Salalah food souk is worth a visit : it is very lively! Here we find there wondeful fish, meat, vegetables, fruits, dates and traditional medicine.

Discover the fruits stalls of Salalah (1 hour ) Salalah is a modern city but still having many agricultural fields in the middle of the city. On the streets there are numerous stalls selling fruits cultivated here : coconuts, banana, papayas, sugar cane, etc...

Visit of Job's Tomb (30 min) We stop on the way to visit Job's tomb, located in the mountains north of Salalah.

Visit of Al Baleed Archeological Site (1 h) This archeological site is located in the city of Salalah, facing the sea. This city was previously known as Dhofar (which is now the name of the region). The area was inhabited since 4000 BC, but the remainings date from the 10th century AD. Its position turned it into an important port in the region. Next to the site is a museum with a hall about history and another about boats.

Visit of Souk Al Hafa (2 h) Al Hafa Souk is Salalah's popular market. Above all it is famous for the sale of silver, gold, frankincense and perfumes.
